FCMB targets healthcare lending with Nigeria summit

First City Monument Bank is positioning itself to capture Nigeria's healthcare financing gap by convening a 2026 summit aimed at making private medical businesses bankable for institutional investors.

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) will host the inaugural FCMB Healthcare Summit on July 28, 2026, to connect healthcare operators with financiers and policymakers. The event marks a deliberate push by the Nigerian lender to originate loans and investment deals in a sector constrained by chronic capital shortages.

For investors and credit analysts, the summit signals a potential new pipeline for debt and equity deployment in Nigeria’s underserved medical economy. Healthcare businesses in the country frequently struggle to secure institutional funding due to infrastructure deficits, foreign exchange pressures, rising operating costs and weak corporate governance. FCMB is positioning itself to bridge these divides by structuring financial solutions that make private medical operators viable counterparties.

Yemisi Edun, managing director and chief executive of FCMB, framed the initiative as a structural commercial play. “A resilient healthcare system is fundamental to the wellbeing and productivity of every nation. At FCMB, we recognise that sustainable healthcare delivery requires more than clinical excellence. It also depends on access to appropriate financing, sound business management, strategic partnerships and long-term investment," Edun said.

The bank will use the gathering to directly pitch its healthcare-focused financial products. A dedicated session will outline credit facilities for infrastructure expansion, equipment acquisition, working capital relief and digital transformation. By targeting these specific operational bottlenecks, FCMB aims to underwrite the upgrades necessary to bring undercapitalised clinics up to institutional lending standards.

The federal government's stance on private-sector involvement will be outlined by Dr Iziaq Salako, the Honourable Minister of State for Health, in a keynote address. Industry perspectives will come from Mrs Njide Ndili, president of the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria. Health Business Academy for Africa (HBA) is providing technical support to help operators improve their investment readiness.

The summit’s agenda is built around practical deal-making rather than policy complaints. Panels will specifically address how to transition healthcare ventures from survival mode to scalable, bankable enterprises capable of attracting sustained capital.
